Al & Annya’s Tonna report

Despite efforts we still don’t get away as early as we hoped for, so it’s the M25 and M4 all the way. I don’t know what it is about the M25, but it used to take about an hour to get from home in Bromley to junction 12 for the M3, now it seems to take about a half hour longer, next time we’ll go across London !!!.  We make our first pit stop at Reading services, taking out another mortgage to purchase two coffees, (yeah, I know, should have taken a flask  L ) to have with our “Annya” home made pork and apple pasties…yummy. Returning to the bikes, I spot a member of Her Majesty’s constabulary looking at the trike (which is almost legal!!), fortunately he is admiring it, so no problem there.

We bump into Nick Hodson at Leigh Delamere before making our way across the bridge into Wales , arriving at Tonna about 5:30 . We pitch the tent, plenty of room this time, before joining the rest of Centre 14 who have taken up residence in what appears to be an ex-army tent. Bellies are topped up with a steak and onion bagette…..very nice too, before an enjoyable night of ale and disco.

Waking up on Saturday morning, the first thing we notice is the weather is good and clear.  After some discussion we decide that we would have a look at the Brecon Mountain Railway near Rhymney with Paul and Tracey. Being a bit if a sucker for preserved railways, I then suddenly realise with horror that I forgot my Anorak…I thought I get that in before the piss taking starts!

The trip was well worth it, a beautiful ride up passed a reservoir, stopping off on the way back for an ice cream. On leaving the train we found a nice pub to eat in before making our way back, encountering a short but sharp shower on the way. By the time we arrived back in Tonna the sun was out again. Saturday night’s entertainment was a band called Capstan Full Strength, I think we’ve seen them there previously.

Sunday morning sees another bright day and after packing up we pair up with Jools and Nick and make off for a couple of nights on the Pembrokeshire coast near Fishguard. We camp at a small site near Llanychear, and Sunday evening enjoy a meal at the local pub. On Monday, bellies full ( Well perhaps not Nicks!) we ride up to Cardigan for a light lunch, returning via a coast road and stopping off at Abereiddy, a pretty little bay before ending up at St David’s for a fish and trip dinner. A nice leisurely run back to the tents and a couple of J.D’s before turning in.

Tuesday was meant to see us running down to Tenby for a couple of nights, but with Wednesday forecast to be a wash-out, Annya and I decide to make for home while Jools and Nick arrange to meet up with Dawn and Dave at Neath. So we’ve had a good five days and with enjoyable company. Thanks all….  J

Only a minor hiccup of the way home, as we pull into Leigh Delamere, the motorway signs flash up “Incident” and on entering the car park we notice three vehicles parked up with armed police talking to the drivers. One of the vehicles a 7 tonner with a trailer leaved about 10 minutes before us. However about an hour later the same lorry overturns and blocks 3 lanes just outside of Reading and we’re now stuck there for an hour.

Footnote:

Having been to Tonna four times now and attended both the “Sheep Shaggers” and “Mutton Molesters” rallies, I was surprised to learn that this practice has now spread to Kent, to Chislehurst if fact. I picked up a local paper the other day and at Tongs farm a man was seen “sexually molesting” a sheep, when disturbed he ran off leaving some jogging bottoms behind. They also found a red jumper….. a woolly jumper?? Boom-Boom. An RSPCA spokesperson said “It’s possible to use a rape DNA kit to identify the person”.  When I contacted the Welsh VSOC, a spokesperson who refused to be identified said “No us Boyo, we can account for all our members on the days concerned, besides we’re all “lambophiles” down here, we like ‘em young and tender”. Bromley police are still investigating…………
